LOUD

Dear friends i cordially invite you for my Solo exhibition of Paintings
at
Jehangir Art Gallery, Fort, Mumbai
From,
10th Nov - 16th Nov 2015
Daily 11.00 am - 7.00 pm

I close my eyes and focus to visualize my position as a human being and as a painter. I find that many stories and incidents are hounding me and staring sternly at my face. My eyes are open and the images are very clear in front of me. There are obvious natural reactions which take place inside me. I start my conversation; I assert my views firmly. There is an extreme out-pour of energy...  emotionally and physically. Suddenly, I find myself immovable. I am a statue now, the only hint of life is in the eyes which is expressing everything. Only I can hear the sound within me... and I realize, there is no one with whom I can connect then the voice within me gets LOUD.

In our journey of life, we constantly come face-to-face with questions and dilemmas... some are strange, some are interesting, some are unusual; while some can be life-changing. Every question has an answer — some, we seek and unearth from our conscience, some we are blissfully unaware of, while some we choose to ignore, and some lay hidden in some dark corners of our mind. We are too selective, picky and choosy, to answer all of these. As an artist I also deal with such questions to be reasoned and answered through various means and sources of understanding. And LOUD represents the interactions with oneself regarding such dilemmas, beliefs, predictions, existence, system, consideration and acceptance.

These paintings deal with the contradiction of silence outside, and the loudness within. These are prolonging visuals which survived through various channels of my upbringing. My concept of being loud is a position in consideration to the profound silence in society on various issues or incidences. It is a general stand which applies as an individual and as a society — it is a representing of me, you and us.

My visuals deal with metaphors, phrases, symbols, identity and stories. Colours are vibrant strong and attractive. I used animals to represent the muteness of the society I represent. The narratives in the paintings are easy to identify and relate. These narratives are not just stories, but highlight the essence of that permanent emotion. I have used oil colours and acrylic colours on canvas as my medium to express as it allows me a free-reign. There is bonding and trust with medium which gives momentum to the content.

Collectively, LOUD indicates that all of us are interlinked, through similar dilemmas and challenging questions — which forms the heart of this series of paintings.

Dear friends,
Its a pleasure to share with you my new upcomings. Recently i was selected for Futur foundation Artist in Residency programme at Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland 2015.
To begin with its one of the beautiful and peaceful landscape i experienced for three months with beautiful mountains, lakes, swans and nice cold breeze. Arrangement for artist where so perfect that i felt very homely throughout my stay. I was able to focus totally on my creative process.
since last few years my content for work revolves around politics. I continued my working in same context.  I had so many materials to use as a part of my work. i was working with direct indirect references, my personal experiences since childhood, my perception about my understanding of politics on various levels.
I used acrylic as my medium to work with. As a Indian we are part of diverse culture. we also understand its complexity and functioning. Its sensitive when it comes to religion and faith. space for politics is created with this sensitive areas. I see the idea of polarization for personal and temporary gains which in long run becomes a mess to get rid off. During last Indian Loksabha election of 2015 was a nerve strectching experience. there where so many statements counter statements controversy which designed the new level of politics like branding. It was a clear polarization through out the campaign where politician focused on common people nerves.
In all such campaigns then and after that in state level elections few statements where special for me to be ignored. for eg one elected Minister of Parliament appealing to public to vote on the basis of their genes. The statement where "you people have to decide whom do you want to vote?. do you want to vote for the sons of Lord Rama or do you want to vote for the bastards". Another statement like "these people marry four five time and just keep producing 40 pille (puppies)", All this statement for me is below the belt and utterly insensitive. This references become part of my work in this residency.
I also worked with my position as a artist and as a individual in the society within this political situations. Its a confrontation outside me and within me. the process of work is talking about this confrontations. I want the viewer to get connected and feel parallel with my feelings of being insecure. We need peace and not confrontations for our progress.

Thank

you

Write up of “” PHILOSOPHY OF URBAN SANDWICH “”

Expressing a language which is close to an artist’s sensitivity is a very personal sentiment. It begins with his integration in living a worldly life and extracting himself from it. The constant conscious involvement of the senses to experience and express through art slowly and steadily matures to a superior level causing artists to develop a different thought process. Artists too are a part of society and are not different from those who belong to it. In fact, they are responsible for shaping and molding society and influencing people’s outlook towards life.  It is a cycle of getting back to point of ‘start’ and ‘end’ at same moment. Life is moving, memories are growing, and perspective has changed and is relentlessly changing with experiences. Plans are failing and re building to exist till your last breath. In this course of gain and loss of materialism and subjective phenomena I approach this series of representing life in an urban setting through a middle class perspective.

My work revolves around the Urban “Mumbai” lifestyle. The process of pre conceived notion, reality and a rational approach with or without enforcing my pragmatic view point is the base of my canvas. The finely camouflaged society surviving under the banner of cosmopolitan has deeper secrets. As a traveler, an artist I want to nail every idea, thought or observation and give it a source in my mind.  In this urban sandwich, my thoughts ponder on my surroundings. I remember while walking on the Dadar station, my mind argued with the present and unfaded memories. The overly populated bridge stormed with hawkers and fellow citizens. Regular Commuters are struggling to reach their destination, calculating time, train schedule and the hassles of daily life.

The traffic, astronomical prices, baffling changes and the memories I grew up with is creating a dialogue in my mind. I generalize my thoughts, imaginations, perspectives, predictions, dreams, hopes, fears, contentment and many such aspects which I have shared or experienced myself, with friends or mere strangers. My visuals begin to develop when my thoughts become transparent to a moment.

My paintings are a representation of being sarcastic, superficial, real, universal or at times conceptual. They bring a smile to my mind. Each painting has an individual and unique thought behind it. I relate to each visual as a process of building my thoughts amid levels of realization where I see only myself attached or detached to the space.. Animals have long been pals to humankind. They have been admired, worshipped, used, exploited and glorified, all at the same time. As an artist and as a viewer I force thought through this norms and stimulate the thinking process beyond the visuals.
The real endeavor in creating this series was to characterize my visual
There is no dais to represent wrong or right, good or bad… It is simply the acceptance of the experience. I define myself through this representation

FOR THE VIEWER IT’S A PAINTING FOR ME IT’S A SCULPTURE.

I begin my visual when I am full from inside. The process is to empty myself. It’s always a big step to enter the white space. This white space for me already creates the whole visual beauty within me. This white space is a flow of energy through me. Challenging me to react and diffusing the presence of the surrounding then it’s me with the vacuum in front. I start disturbing this vacuum space through my understanding of visual elements. I play with it by keep on guessing the right layer for the structure. Actually attempting various options to develop new network for research.

The process is in rising flow creating a pyramid. Step by step whole visual start strengthening its presence. The divisions in space created through depth allow me to continue further. Speaking about the colour in this visual is related to the silent comment, which I make. My colours for me come with the “sound “. I can feel the sound through my colours. These colours create a kind of atmosphere, which changes the meaning of form for that space.

Form in the space is single and form with all the visual is repetitive. The black form with glossy skin is the metaphor of being different in the visual. This only black form indicates the force, grace, flexibility, movement and direction for the visual. This form with it speed break the silence. The circle reacts as gravity for other form to revolve in the space. The circle indicates the control of speed. Lotus form present itself in two ways for me. This image is printed as a childhood symbol that cannot be deleted. Second aspect of lotus is to command itself as a symbol of hope in difficult condition. This word “hope” is very important in my life both as a person and as an artist.

Gold is used not as a “dominance” but as a “enhance”. We are on a journey with a vision ahead. The space between journey and me is unknown. The process comes with enormous surprises of visual elements, which decide the time frame. This time frame represents our maturity of neutral approach throughout. Representing a female form in my visuals is added on aspect of vibrations. It’s a temptation resulting in diversion. Attempt to be a part of the family of visuals. Here lies the real stretch in this pulling of words. In visual even though every aspect of visual is it colour, form, texture, drawing, space is individual in strength then also they relate for each other acting for one whole beauty thus using of Arabic calligraphy is a part of cultural beauty and its importance to link between me.

I allow both flow of known and unknown. Interaction with the visual space is an ongoing process. I see the “Horizon” and I see the “blue sky” to be touched one day. I am on my way keep following me.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY - Contemporary art gallery Siemens Sanat, Istanbul welcomes the new year with a striking exhibition, “The Real Challenge Is Elsewhere”. The exhibition, which displays the works of three artists from Turkey, India and Netherlands, is on view through 28th of February. Curated by T. Melih Gorgun and Murteza Fidan, ‘The Real Challenge Is Elsewhere’ presents the cultural differences between Eastern and the Western cultures as reflected in the works of Gozde Ilkin, Javed Mulani and Wafae Ahalouch el Keriasti.

artwork: Wafae Ahalouch el Keriasti Pin-up World - 100 x 70 cm. Acrylic on Paper - 2008Expressing that the exhibition presents the contrast between Easterner’s spiritual-based perceptions of reality with Westerner’s visual-based perception, T. Melih Gorgun adds, “This exhibit presents the liability for the evil created by the cultural-clash and the increasingly banal thoughts about human evolution which stem from the clash between these two cultures.”

Despite their cultural differences, the works of the artists in the exhibition, reconcile with each other through drawing, without any bias. T. Melih Gorgun clarifies how this reconciliation takes place by stating, “The human being in its natural state is wild. It is sociability that changes human nature, and forces him to live with his undeterred passion and insatiable desires and turns him into an alienated being of consciousness.

Artist Gozde Ilkin (Turkey) describes her works as short stories about the transformation of the body in the face of man shaped by modes of consumption, areas of living and experienced relationships.

Artist Javed Mulani (India) expresses that his drawings, by releasing energy in a positive way, reflect his belief that the future will bring more than what is expected of it.

Wafae Ahalouch el Keriasti (Netherlands) explains that history; religion, politics, films, media, families and fairy tales are the greatest sources of inspiration for her in the past five years. The artist frequently uses the themes of weakness versus power, male-female relations and guilt versus innocence in her works.

The exhibition ‘The Real Challenge Is Elsewhere’ is open to visitors at the Siemens Sanat art gallery every day between 10:00-19:00 through February 28th.

Understanding art is a new experience and experiences never end. This
entangles me in the process of art. I started my initial art lesson by following old
masters paintings under the guidance of my mentor Mr. Sunil Nandgoankar. The
journeys continued at the famous campus of Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai were
I learned the aesthetics involved in visual process. I involved myself in thorough
academic studies to command over the medium and techniques to enhance into
visual exploration.

Drawing is the first stage of process in which the idea emerges and settles on
a visual space. Drawing can come as a source for accelerating the process or it
may form as complete work of art in itself. I see my drawing as lines that break
themselves and convert into forms. The Intensity and force applied grips the line
to the surface. The tonal variations implied between lines breaks wholeness of
space and generate movement optically. These lines come with an intention but
impulsively. The process of impulsive drawing is after understanding a subject
or object, exploring the unknown possibilities to network the link of artist's
aesthetic sensitivity. The distortion and addition or simplification about the
existing form is due to the contribution of observation, perception, understanding,
transformation and sensitivity.

My recent series of work evolved gradually from the society. It's not an instant
reaction or respond to what's happening around. Visuals explored are the
experiences being identified separately. Today's world
is facing terrorism
under the label of Islam has added more to the insecure feeling. My work is not a
statement but it's an experimental expression of contemporary situation depicting
the psyche of the mislead society. This constant feeling of being separated
sometimes has become the content of my work. The tragedy and incidents
happening around develop into concept of work.

The play of dominance or to over power has generated a new dimension which
is without structure. Whether you are involved or not, you face it all the time. This
is the general expression of an individual. My drawing represents the mental and
physical existence with bold lines and pure colour. It's a process to release the
energy in a positive way. There is lot more unexpected to come in future to
challenge my creative senses. This keeps me alive and aware to contribute
with artistic intellect.
