Write
up of “” PHILOSOPHY OF URBAN SANDWICH “”
Expressing a language which is close to
an artist’s sensitivity is a very personal sentiment. It begins with his
integration in living a worldly life and extracting himself from it. The
constant conscious involvement of the senses to experience and express through
art slowly and steadily matures to a superior level causing artists to develop
a different thought process. Artists too are a part of society and are not
different from those who belong to it. In fact, they are responsible for
shaping and molding society and influencing people’s outlook towards life. It is a cycle of getting back to point of
‘start’ and ‘end’ at same moment. Life is moving, memories are growing, and
perspective has changed and is relentlessly changing with experiences. Plans
are failing and re building to exist till your last breath. In this course of
gain and loss of materialism and subjective phenomena I approach this series of
representing life in an urban setting through a middle class perspective.
My work revolves around the Urban “Mumbai”
lifestyle. The process of pre conceived notion, reality and a rational approach
with or without enforcing my pragmatic view point is the base of my canvas. The
finely camouflaged society surviving under the banner of cosmopolitan has
deeper secrets. As a traveler, an artist I want to nail every idea, thought or
observation and give it a source in my mind.
In this urban sandwich, my thoughts ponder on my surroundings. I remember
while walking on the Dadar station, my mind argued with the present and unfaded
memories. The overly populated bridge stormed with hawkers and fellow citizens.
Regular Commuters are struggling to reach their destination, calculating time,
train schedule and the hassles of daily life.
The traffic, astronomical prices, baffling
changes and the memories I grew up with is creating a dialogue in my mind. I generalize
my thoughts, imaginations, perspectives, predictions, dreams, hopes, fears,
contentment and many such aspects which I have shared or experienced myself, with
friends or mere strangers. My visuals begin to develop when my thoughts become
transparent to a moment.
My
paintings are a representation of being sarcastic, superficial, real, universal
or at times conceptual. They bring a smile to my mind. Each painting has an
individual and unique thought behind it. I relate to each visual as a process
of building my thoughts amid levels of realization where I see only myself
attached or detached to the space.. Animals have long been pals to humankind.
They have been admired, worshipped, used, exploited and glorified, all at the
same time. As an artist and as a viewer I force thought through this norms and
stimulate the thinking process beyond the visuals.
The
real endeavor in creating this series was to characterize my visual
There is no dais to represent wrong or
right, good or bad… It is simply the acceptance of the experience. I define myself
through this representation
